White Christmas

Written by Ned Norris

Did you know that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the beloved holiday movie, White Christmas?

There's likely no better way to evoke warm memories and holiday cheer than listening to the iconic song that inspired the movie, which was first heard on The Kraft Music Hall on Christmas Day in 1941.

Back then, Bing Crosby's smooth vocals and Irving Berlin's wistful lyrics struck a powerful chord with a nation yearning for peace and familiar comforts after the attack on Pearl Harbor a few short weeks before.

However, Irving Berlin actually wrote the song for the musical film, Holiday Inn. Unlike the movie White Christmas, which was never adapted for radio, Holiday Inn can be found a couple of times on RUSC.

You can listen to both of these by clicking here.

I don't want to tell you much more about the facts behind the wonderful song, or the movies, because I've put a fun White Christmas quiz together for you, to test your knowledge of this festive favorite!

Think you know it all? Give it a try!

You'll also find a brand new Christmas Classics radio station on the RUSC website, so make sure to tune in for more joyful listening.

See you on the inside,
