RUSC MAILING
Written by Ned Norris
I wanted to let you know about the second episode of The RUSC Guide to Old Time Radio, which is now live, and it’s all about the night American broadcasting truly began.
I love this story as it really is the night that changed radio in a way that ultimately gave birth to all those amazing shows.
The episode is titled “The First Broadcasts - KDKA and the Birth of American Radio”. It takes you back to a damp rooftop in Pittsburgh on November 2, 1920, where a handful of pioneering engineers huddled in a wooden shack—and unknowingly sparked a communications revolution.
For the first time ever, election results were broadcast live, reaching listeners before newspapers could even hit the streets. Imagine it—crackling voices sharing breaking news in real time. It was the start of something magical.
