RUSC MAILING
Written by Ned Norris
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I found myself listening to this classic comedy favorite to set the mood: The Jack Benny Program — Jack Dreams He Is a Turkey.
Benny first hit the airwaves on the Blue Network back in 1932, and his magic still works: somehow he’s vain, argumentative, and a world‑class penny‑pincher—yet completely lovable. He even lets his cast steal the best lines, which is part of why the laughs still land today.
The episode? Four days before the Thanksgiving holiday, Jack and Mary shop for a turkey big enough for fifteen. At fifty‑five cents a pound, Jack does the math… and opts for the eight‑dollar live bird instead. Back home, the cute gobbler gives him second thoughts, and that night he dreams he’s the plump turkey on the butcher’s counter. Classic Benny.
Have a listen and, if it made you smile, please tap a star rating—it helps more folks find these golden‑age goodies. I’ve queued it up—along with 50+ other Thanksgiving treats—on the RUSC Radio Thanksgiving Special.
Happy listening, my friends,
