Merry Merry Christmas to you

Written by Ned Norris

If you listen to just one show this Christmas, make it Joy’s favorite: Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince from The Railroad Hour. She always says, it touches her heart every time she hears it. t’s a timeless reminder of friendship, sacrifice, and the compassion that lifts us all.

I hope you have enjoyed the Christmas-themed shows we've been adding to RUSC throughout December. But as well as all of those I have highlighted a few more I think you’ll love:

  • Cavalcade of America — A Child Is Born: A reverent, beautifully told nativity drama.
  • Duffy’s Tavern — The Cast Does A Christmas Carol: A spirited, comic riff on Dickens.
  • Glenn Miller — Chesterfield Show, Christmas Eve 1941: Music, morale, and memories.
  • The Great Gildersleeve — Needy Children’s Christmas Party: Gildy at his generous best.
  • Gunsmoke — Twelfth Night: Frontier Christmas storytelling with heart.
  • Jack Benny — Trimming a Tree: Familiar shenanigans with holiday cheer.
  • Screen Directors’ Playhouse — It’s a Wonderful Life: Hope and second chances.
  • Our Miss Brooks — Magic Tree: Classroom capers and holiday magic.
  • Richard Diamond — Contemporary Christmas Carol: A modern spin that finds the spirit.
  • The Six Shooter — Brit Ponset’s Christmas Carol: A gentle western parable with Jimmy Stewart.

Want festive listening without lifting a finger? Head to RUSC Radio and choose Christmas Classics—a themed, non-stop stream you can keep on while you work, wrap, bake, or simply put your feet up and sip something warm.

I’ve also put together a brand-new Hear It, Know It Quiz where you listen to a soundbite and drag the correct series to match. Have a go—and share it with friends to see how they do. And arriving on Christmas Day: a Spot the Difference challenge, just for fun and just for you. You’ll find both by clicking Quiz in the left border inside RUSC.

For many of us, these shows are more than entertainment. They’re companions through quiet mornings and late evenings—touchstones that connect generations, and reminders of virtues that never go out of season: kindness, charity, humor, and hope.

From the golden days of radio I love to share with you, Joy and I wish you a Merry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
