I hope you had an enjoyable Fourth of July!

Whether you spent it at a parade, a family picnic, watching a bit of sport, or simply relaxing at home, I hope it was a happy and memorable holiday. There has certainly been plenty going on lately — not least the World Cup football capturing so much attention.

Of course, I also hope you managed to squeeze in a little old time radio over the holiday weekend. I noticed that You Are There — Philadelphia 1776 has made it into Ned’s Top Ten on RUSC, which seems a very fitting choice for the Fourth of July!

One of the things I love most about old time radio is that it is a wonderful history lesson in itself. It gives such a vivid glimpse into life in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s — the language, the customs, the humor, the news of the day, and the way people entertained themselves before television took over the living room. Joy and I have always been especially fond of the history programs, and Joy often says that everything she knows, she learned from listening to OTR!

After all the excitement of the holiday weekend, did you get a chance to try the Fourth of July Quiz?
